OM OF THE YEAR 2007: ND8F, HOMER - CONGRATULATIONS!

TOP OP FOR APRIL, 2008 IS KC2RGU, KURT OMISS # 5916

2008 QSO Party

The 2008 OMISS QSO Party was conducted over the weekend of February 9-10, 2008.
Results from the 2008 party are posted here

AWARDS FEES TEMPORARILY LOWERED!

In a Board decision on January 10th, the fees for awards and endorsements will be lowered to $2.00.  The temporary rates will run from January 15th 2008 through July 1st 2008, and will be re-evaluated at that time.  The new fee schedule is intended to reduce the OMISS Treasury, which has ballooned in recent years, in a way that most members will be able to benefit from.  (Other ideas to reduce the funds are being considered and discussed by the Advisory Committee.)  For further questions, please e-mail our Awards Manager, Dick, KA0AK. (Address in the e-mail listings.)

BOARD CHANGES

We would like to extend a BIG thanks to K4JRK for the time he served as President.  Jeff needed to resign for health and personal reasons, and his leadership will be missed.  We wish Jeff a speedy return to good health!  Stepping back into the position is Greg, AE9W.  Greg served in this position from 2000-2004, and served 2 terms as a Director prior to that.

We also wish to thank N0AIE for the time he served as Director.  Ev has become busy at work and is unable to continue in the position.  We look forward to Ev's leadership again in the future.  AE9W has appointed Homer, ND8F to fill this vacancy.  We look forward to having Homer on the team.

E-MAIL LISTINGS HAVE RETURNED

The OMISS Member E-Mail listings have returned. There were a LOT of "dead" addresses that no longer worked, so we have started from scratch. You may feel free to send us your current E-Mail address if you would like to be included on the listing. We use a script to mask the addresses so SPAM users can't search our site and obtain addresses. As an added feature, we are offering FREE yourcall@omiss.info addresses. If you would like to sign up for one of these addresses, please use the form available on the right side of the E-Mail section. [E-Mail Listings]

NEW RULES ON AWARDS

By Board Action on May 11, 2007, recomendationtions to the awards program were approved. All charter members OM #01-110 have been given Permanent VIP status and can be worked at any time for the VIP Award. This is in recognition of their work in the early days of OMISS to get the Society started so we can enjoy what we have now.

The cost of Awards and Endorsements have been increased from $3.00 to $4.00 for Awards, and $2.00 to $3.00 for endorsements. This increase will take effect on June 01, 2007. The increase of costs is due to the increase in postage, which takes effect on May 15, 2007, ink, mailing envelopes, and certificate blanks. We are trying to keep the awards fees down to a minimum for the membership, but with rising costs, the Awards program is not paying for itself.

As of March 26, 2007 by OMISS Board of Directors action, the practice of having to have QSL card verification for any OMISS awards has been eliminated. As of this date OMISS will use the honor system for their awards and log information is all that will be required.

NEW AWARDS

PASSED BY THE OMISS BOARD OF DIRECTORS ON MARCH 27, 2008, THESE 2 AWARDS WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER APRIL 01. READ THE RULES AND AWAY YOU GO
Both of these awards will start on the 1st of April, 2008.

SPECIAL NOTE: OMISS uses NACO for the basis of determining counties, the burroughs of Alaska and the independent cities in the states of Virginia and Nevada will be recognized as counties along with the counties in the possesions and terretories if the U.S., such as GUAM, PUERTO RICO, and the VIRGIN ISLANDS. This summary is not intended to be comprehensive. If in doubt, email or check the County Hunter web site.

OMISS Mugs Available!

After working with Rick, NV5A "The Signman of Baton Rouge" on a design for an OMISS Mug, we have come up with one that any OMISS Member would be proud to display in the shack - or at work! To view the mug and/or place an order for one, surf on over to: http://www.thesignman.com/clubs/omiss.html and see what you think. OMISS has nothing to do with the pricing or payment, so please direct any of those questions to Rick, NV5A. (Click on mug for more info or to order.)
